Aftercare & Maintenance
Your cosmetic or medical tattoo is a semi-permanent treatment that can take 28 days to heal. The amazing news is there is little to no ‘downtime’ after our procedures because you have been treated professionally with precision equipment in a sterile environment at La Klinic.
It is highly recommended that you follow La Klinic Post Care instructions to ensure the best possible results and longevity of your Cosmetic or Medical tattoo. This information acts as a guideline only. Each client’s skin responds differently both in how long it takes to heal and the number of sessions needed for colour retention and desired results. It is important that you take good care of your skin while healing and beyond.
COSMETIC
LIPS – If you have had Cold Sores in the past, you will need to take an antiviral medication. Please do so immediately after the treatment. (If you are prone to Cold Sores regularly, and have taken the antiviral medication before the treatment, please take another dose immediately after, to ensure Cold Sores do not occur.
Apply Fougera ointment three times per day for the first 7 days to relieve dryness and keep the lips moist and Tyrosol Ointment in the evening to aid the healing process.
BROWS – Apply Tyrosol three times a day for the first 7 days and then nightly until brow is fully healed.
EYES – Please ensure you keep the area sterile for the first 3 days until it has begun to heal. Gently wipe eye area with a clean cotton pad and water. Please note, infection can be possible if mascara is worn immediately after the treatment; especially if the mascara wand is old. We recommend no mascara for 3 days after the treatment. However if you do need to wear mascara by day 2, please buy new mascara and use a disposable mascara wand.
REMOVAL – STRICTLY NO WATER on the treated area for 3 days. A crust will form to extract the pigment, please do not touch the crust for 7 – 10 days as it will fall off naturally.
MEDICAL
SCARS – No aftercare is required as this treatment requires dry healing. You will have raised pink marks from the treatment which may take 7 days to settle and a minimum of 6-8 weeks to fully heal, regenerate and recover. At this time you will be due for your second appointment. Results are reviewed 6-8 weeks after the second appointment.
STRETCH MARKS – We recommend massaging the area twice daily with Vitamin E Oil to facilitate healing. You will have raised pink marks from the treatment which may take up to 10 days to settle and a minimum of 6-8 weeks to fully heal, regenerate and recover. At this time you will be due for your second appointment. Results are reviewed 6-8 weeks after the second appointment.
WHAT TO EXPECT DIRECTLY FOLLOWING YOUR TREATMENT
Day 1 for Brows: EEK! Your brows look very scary and dark!… Yes they are slightly inflamed and are just about to heal. The colour can fade up to 40% once it has settled. Please don’t worry, by day 7 it will look amazing! Remember also, the true depth of colour is achieved after the second appointment.
Day 1 for Lips: WOWEE! They are a very dark shade; nothing like the colour you chose!! Yes they are still slightly swollen from the treatment, but remember the colour can fade up to 40% once it has healed. The true colour depth is always achieved after the second appointment.
Day 1 for Eyes: For some sensitive skins, there may be some inflammation. This can take up to 5 days to settle. Eye drops can be used to relax the eyes.
OTHER GOOD STUFF TO KNOW
Please note, if your skin is excessively oily, or you regularly have saunas, hot yoga, or perspire heavily, your semi permanent makeup may not last as long. You may choose to have a third treatment for more definition and depth of colour at an additional expense.
- Do not pick, peel or scratch the treated area as this may cause uneven healing or risk infection, or scarring.
- Make-up is not to be applied for at least 48 hours. This could lead to infection and cause the colour to change.
- Please do not use cleansers for 48 hours.
- Avoid exposure to chlorinated or salty water for 7 days as this could dilute the pigment.
- Avoid direct sun exposure for 2 weeks. Exposure to the sun can cause fading and may cause the colour to change. After 2 weeks always apply sunscreen to protect the treated area.
- Skin topicals that contain acids or retinol may lighten the colour prematurely; we strongly advise against the use of prescription Retin-A or Roaccutane close to your treated area.
- Please do not sit in a steam room for 2 weeks. Steam could make the colour bleed.
- If you are planning laser please inform your practitioner of your cosmetic or medical tattoo.
